Dear FUMS Families,

It is with a heart of humility, gratitude, and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of First United Methodist School.  I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of education!  I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than 20 years, and I am passionate about instilling Godly values in your young ones while at the same time equipping them for academic and life success.  I have taught kindergarten through 12th grade in my education journey, and I genuinely feel each of these grades and school years was an unforgettable adventure.  My most rewarding experience throughout these years is witnessing my students’ spiritual, physical, and academic growth along with developing life long bonds with them and their families.

I am confident the Lord has great plans for this amazing school, and I’m elated to embark on this new journey with all of you. Along with the help of the Holy Spirit, teachers, and staff, I will work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.  We are determined to work hard to continue the legacy established by FUMS by building strong relationships with parents, students and community partners.  We will focus on “Kingdom” education, Florida State Standards, the use of data to drive instruction to provide consistent rigor in our curricula.

As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors-teachers, staff, students and parents, is excited to be here!  This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, loving and nurturing environment.  Please know that I love to keep the lines of communication open, and I welcome your input.  Don’t hesitate to call or email me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year.

Lastly, during this time of transition we have implemented some changes to our drop-off/dismissal policy. I humbly ask for your patience with us during this transition. Please be open to transformation, and trust that we have your child’s best interest at heart. Change often makes us uncomfortable, but if we give new ideas a chance, they may prove to become the very impetus which fosters positive outcomes beyond our imagination. I will elaborate on these changes during our Orientation on Friday, August 10th at 9:30 a.m. Please mark your calendars!

I look forward to working with you as a team to help each student at First United Methodist School meet their goals, and I am optimistic this will be an amazing school year!

 Joyfully serving,

Mrs. Cross

***On a side note, and in light of our new drop-off/dismissal policy, please bring your child’s supplies during Meet the Teacher. Remember to bring your cameras so you can take a picture of your child with his/her new teacher!
